Welcome to Oakland

Oakland sits just across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco and is home to nearly half a million people. Oakland is the largest city in Alameda County and offers residents easy access to San Francisco (20 minutes by BART train) without all of the fog and cool weather for which San Francisco is famous. Oakland hosts the fifth busiest port in the nation and is also home to significant companies such as Kaiser Permanente, Blue Shield, and the Clorox Company. Oakland has a downtown business district and neighborhood shopping districts, each with a very distinct character. Some would say its proverbial heart is Lake Merritt – a unique inland tidal lagoon and a bird sanctuary (the first protected wildlife refuge in America, established in 1870). Lake Merritt is ringed by parklands and homes, state and federal buildings, and historic buildings such as the Grand Lake Theatre.

The City of Oakland extends from the shore of the San Francisco Bay up into the hills, where many homes enjoy views of the San Francisco Bay. Extensive walking trails and forested parklands sit atop those hills. Oakland residents also enjoy diverse experiences from the “foodie”/boutique shopping district of Rockridge, to the culturally vibrant Uptown area (home to the “First Friday”/Art Murmur street festival held once a month), to an incredibly diverse collection of restaurants serving ethnic cuisine from around the world, to the walkable shoreline and coffee shops and entertainment options in the Jack London Square neighborhood. Oakland housing covers the gamut in style, size, and price. You’ll find anything from affordable first-time housing to multi-million dollar properties, including condominiums that enjoy intimate proximity to vibrant urban amenities and spectacular hilltop retreats.
