Welcome to Santa Clara

Santa Clara is home to Mission Santa Clara de Asis, established in 1777, as well as Santa Clara University, a Jesuit University and the oldest university in California. Levi Stadium – the home of the San Francisco 49’ers Football team – is located in Santa Clara, as is the Great America theme park. Santa Clara is largely bordered by San Jose, with some shared borders with Sunnyvale and Cupertino to the west. As such, Santa Clara feels strongly integrated with the City of San Jose. It has roughly 125,000 residents and substantial swaths of business space – offices and research and development facilities. Notable high-tech corporate residents include Intel, Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Applied Materials; Oracle and Ericsson also have a strong presence in the city. The City is fairly flat throughout and sits on the floor of the Santa Clara Valley. It offers easy proximity to all parts of Silicon Valley, the San Jose International Airport, and all other amenities that San Jose has to offer.

Santa Clara is the eighth-largest city in the Bay Area, and it has an interesting history: It was first visited by Europeans in 1769, very shortly before the erection of the Mission under the leadership of Junipero Serra. It was later the site of one of the last battles in the Conquest of California – a battle between the Mexican Californios and invading American forces. More recently, Santa Clara was the site of the first successful public high-altitude flights, completed by John J. Montgomery when he flew gliders over the Santa Clara Valley in 1905.
